Colin Carruthers energetic approach to record the constantly changing coastline is very evident in this painting 'Sea Holly'. There is a sense of power and strength in the painting as the sea and clouds go about their business in a view looking towards Three Cliffs Bay, The Gower, Wales. Although there is a feeling of bleakness the plants in the foreground seem to give a sense of hope and determination regardless of the environment. The presentation as a framed triptych provides an extra panoramic dimension to the scene.

Colin says: 'Beyond simply looking at my paintings and gaining an aesthetic pleasure, I do think it's important that they offer up space for thought" . Carruthers has certainly achieved this in 'Sea Holly'. The freedom of being at the coast is there for all to appreciate and contemplate.
