different countries. In 1968 Devlin was awarded a major Arts Council Award and established his own painting school, initially in Scotland but later relocated to France.
St Pierre de Vassols, a small Provencal village within sight of Mont Ventoux is seen here surrounded by cherry and olive trees and the red earth typical of the Vaucluse area. The overall impression is of warmth and summer sunlight. There is a stillness in the village which, blessed with an abundance of fruit trees, lies equi-distant between earth and sky.
Many artists have chosen to paint in Provence because of the extraordinary quality of the light. The clarity of light and calmness of the atmosphere in this scene are examples of George Devlin's great skill in composition and careful brushwork.
In addition to Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery George Devlin has exhibited at other leading Scottish Art Galleries. Each painting at Red Rag is sourced from the George Devlin artist studio and like all Red Rag Scottish art and Contemporary art it can be shipped worldwide.
